Germantown Hills History
It was originally called Oak Grove Park up until 1954 when the village founders wanted to use the name "Germantown" to reflect Germantown House and the large German-American population. However, at the time, the name was taken by a small village in southern Illinois so in 1967, Oak Grove Park was changed to Germantown Hills and the population in the area steadily rose until about the 1980s when the annexation of the caps whispering Oaks subdivision added more to the area and from 1992 today, rapid development fueled by the suburban nation of the Peoria area brought the population up to around 3500.
